An excerpt from the article 20 facts about Negev
  • Northern Negev (Mediterranean zone) with annual rainfall of 300 millimeters and quite fertile soils
  • Western Negev with rainfall of 250 millimeters per year, with light and partly sandy soils. The dunes here can reach a height of up to 30 meters
  • The Middle Negev with an average rainfall of 200 millimeters, is characterized by impermeable soil on which most of the water flows
  • A plateau in the Negev Mountains ranges from 370 to 520 meters above sea level, with extreme summer and winter temperatures. The area receives 100 millimeters of rain annually and the soils are poorer and partly salty
  • The Arabah Valley along the border with Jordan stretches 180 kilometers from Eilat in the south of the country to the tip of the Dead Sea in the north. The Arabah Valley is very dry, with only 50 millimeters of rain per year. It has worse soil, on which nothing will grow without irrigation and the use of special soil additives.
